Student's Choice Topic

For student’s choice presentation, my topic is virtual reality haptic vests such as Hardlight VR Suit and KOR-FX Gaming Vest.

The idea behind these haptic vests is to give the user location based physical feedback that allows them to feel on-screen action by means of the movement of the vest.

Brief description

Hardlight VR Suit

Hardlight VR is an upper-body vest developed by Nullspace VR containing 16 haptic pads that deliver impact feedback to the user’s chest, back, arms and shoulders. The pads can be triggered by any software integrated with NullSpace VR’s APIs with relative rotational information from the user’s body provided by integrated IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units).

Hardlight VR is tethered, with a USB cable attaching the suite to the PC providing both power and the input / output feed.

KOR-FX Gaming Vest

KOR-FX Gaming Vest is an immersive gaming vest that transforms the acousto-haptic signals (audio) coming from games or media into pinpointed high-definition feedback that allows the user to feel the on-screen action and environmental factors. The user can feel the explosions that happen in the environment, the hit caused by boxing with a virtual character and many more.

KOR-FX is fully compatible across a range of media and devices and can be used with anything that produces audio.

Presentation Structure

In the presentation, I want to talk about where and why I think this technology would be beneficial, problems and issues with it and the future directions and applications for it.
